In my Mission Statement I promised to bring more structure in the organisation of the Finn World Masters and during the last winter I have been working on this matter.
Since a few weeks I am working on new Finn World Masters Rules. These Rules are initiated a few years ago by a couple of German Finn Masters, but up till now nothing happened with the document.
I commented these Rules and asked for comments from 11 Finn Masters all over the world, including the Germans who made the draft.
Together with this I asked the 11 sailors if they are willing to take place in the new Masters Committee. Some of them do, some don’t. My plan is to present this committee during the Annual Masters Meeting (AMM) in Maubuisson.
I received comments from most of them now and will implement them in the document.
Mike Till from the UK has changed the format of the document into a more logical one and I will use this format from now. Some comments are still under discussion, but I am sure we will find consensus in these matters. When I finshed it I will send it again to the 11 sailors to find out if we all agree.
If so I will publish it on the website in order to present it to the Annual Masters Meeting (AMM) in Maubuisson. All Masters have the possibility to read the Rules before the AMM, so it will not be a surpise.
I hope most of you are thinking of a start of the new season now. Here in Holland the weather is getting warmer every day.
Regards,
Fons van Gent.

Who is your president of the Finn Masters Fleet?

For those Finn Masters who do not know me yet:

My name is Fons van Gent, aged 61 (1947) and Finnsailor since 1974.

I am married to my wife Janny for 37 years and together we have two sons (aged 30 and 34) and two grandsons (aged 3 and 5).

My profession is Senior Sales Engineer in Atlas Copco Compressors in The Netherlands, which is part of a Swedish multinational, producing and selling compressed air equipment in a wide range, all over the world. On the first of May this year I will retire after almost 38 years in this company.

The Annual Masters Meeting has elected me in 2008 as the Masters President and I am very proud to be asked to look after the Finn Master's interests.

If you read my mission statement on finnworldmaster.com under the button "Organization" you know my mission and intentions.

I will keep all of you informed about the actions I have taken and will take in the near future and I hope this blog will give you an idea about what keeps me busy.

Fons.
