Looking back on FWM in Maubuisson
Dear Finn Master friends,
2 1/2 weeks after the FWM in Maubuisson I start getting my life in a proper shape again. I think we had a good Championship, in spite of some discussions about scoring, etc. Still I think I did the right thing by changing the 4 starting groups into 2 starting groups. Most of you agreed with it, but some did not. As I said in the meeting: we are with 264 individuals with 264 ideas and we will never succeed in pleasing every Master for the full 100%. I am aware of that and I can live with it.
I thank the CVB in Maubuisson for their perfect organization and their hospitality. The venue is perfect, but nobody has influence on the wind conditions. I remember the FWM in 1999 with more constant winds, when we had no shifts up to 50 degrees.
We had a constructive and positive Annual Masters Meeting on the Wednesday. I was pleased to welcome Corinne Rolland-McKenzie, who attended our meeting. I thank all of you for your input and specially Richard Hart for presenting his scoring proposal, Gareth Roberts for presenting Pwllheli as a candidate for the FWM in 2011 and Pietro Piram and Bruno Catalan for doing the same for Punta Ala. After these presentations the meeting voted for Punta Ala in Italy as the venue for the FWM in 2011. I am looking forward to visit them and, of course, in 2011 to sail there. Pwllheli looks like a great venue, too and I am glad that they remain candidate for 2012.
Now I am trying to make an appointment with the Labud Sailing Club in Split for the preparations of the FWM in 2010. I will probably visit them in July.
I wish Richard Hart a lot of succes with creating a proposal for a scoring system by the end of September. Some of us (we are working on this group) will assist him in this job and I hope the outcome will satisfy most of you.
I wish everybody a good sailing season with good winds and good results and, most important: a good health.
Kind regards,
Fons van Gent,
President Finn World Masters fleet.

Maubuisson is coming soon!
Dear fellow Finn Masters,
It has been a long time since my last blog, but after a busy period in business I am finally retired now, so I can fully focus on the Finn World Masters in Maubuisson (and the coming years) now.
Entries for Maubuisson are going very well: 267 today! There will be 25 Legends! (aged 70 and up) and 3 ladies.
I hope we will have a great event with nice winds and a lot of sun, so the sailors and also their partners will have a great time.
I am now preparing the Annual Masters Meeting (AMM) which will be held on Wednesday June 3rd at 10.00 o'clock sharp. We will have a lot to discuss and to present so I hope we will have structural discussions which will lead to good decisions. The agenda for the AMM 2009 is on the website, together with the proposals. Please read this to be prepared for the dicussions and decisions.
If you have an item you want to bring up in the AMM please mail it to me a.s.a.p.
See you all in Maubuisson.

In my Mission Statement I promised to bring more structure in the organisation of the Finn World Masters and during the last winter I have been working on this matter.
Since a few weeks I am working on new Finn World Masters Rules. These Rules are initiated a few years ago by a couple of German Finn Masters, but up till now nothing happened with the document.
I commented these Rules and asked for comments from 11 Finn Masters all over the world, including the Germans who made the draft.
Together with this I asked the 11 sailors if they are willing to take place in the new Masters Committee. Some of them do, some don’t. My plan is to present this committee during the Annual Masters Meeting (AMM) in Maubuisson.
I received comments from most of them now and will implement them in the document.
Mike Till from the UK has changed the format of the document into a more logical one and I will use this format from now. Some comments are still under discussion, but I am sure we will find consensus in these matters. When I finshed it I will send it again to the 11 sailors to find out if we all agree.
If so I will publish it on the website in order to present it to the Annual Masters Meeting (AMM) in Maubuisson. All Masters have the possibility to read the Rules before the AMM, so it will not be a surpise.
I hope most of you are thinking of a start of the new season now. Here in Holland the weather is getting warmer every day.
Regards,
Fons van Gent.

Who is your president of the Finn Masters Fleet?
For those Finn Masters who do not know me yet:
My name is Fons van Gent, aged 61 (1947) and Finnsailor since 1974.
I am married to my wife Janny for 37 years and together we have two sons (aged 30 and 34) and two grandsons (aged 3 and 5).
My profession is Senior Sales Engineer in Atlas Copco Compressors in The Netherlands, which is part of a Swedish multinational, producing and selling compressed air equipment in a wide range, all over the world. On the first of May this year I will retire after almost 38 years in this company.
The Annual Masters Meeting has elected me in 2008 as the Masters President and I am very proud to be asked to look after the Finn Master's interests.
If you read my mission statement on finnworldmaster.com under the button "Organization" you know my mission and intentions.
I will keep all of you informed about the actions I have taken and will take in the near future and I hope this blog will give you an idea about what keeps me busy.
